Okay, now that this sucker is out of beta, I might actually be using this the way I intended too. I'll give cross posting a shot soon.

Why Network2 is Cool...

Sometimes I have trouble explaining to people who don't know already what Internet TV is to some degree why Network2 is really cool.

I wanted to post something substantial and clear here, and maybe it will end up on a "First Time?" page for N2. This was partially prompted by partially prompted by something that came up in the blog of a friend who was looking to buy a GPS Unit.

"But Dave," I hear you cry, "What does that have to do with Internet Television?"
Hang on... I'll get back to that in a moment.

I serve a variety of functions for Network2. Network2 is a guide to the world of Internet Television. In an episode of Focus, Jeff Pulver talked a bit about the definition of Internet Television. We came to agree that:

Internet TV is video content that is orginal, consistently updated, entertaining, and committed to a genre.

Basically, Internet TV is the space that's a step up from random funny videos on Youtube, and one step below Broadcast Television in terms of some difficult to define axis that might be called overall delivery quality. I say it's difficult to define because it's not unusual to find something worth watching online that's more entertaining and or informative than something broadcast, but Internet TV is going to be more original (i.e. not clips from broadcast tv) and generally better put together than the videos that become 1 hit wonders for Youtube.

So what does this have to do with the GPS?

Well, when my friend was searching for a GPS I immediately thought, "Well the hot company there is Garmin." I didn't learn this from a commercial, I learned it from a show called Wallstrip that I found through Network2. It's a daily show that does a short feature on a financially interesting company or a one that just has something newsworthy happening with it at the time. In this episode, they covered Garmin, the makers of some GPS hardware that's a "hot" gift right now.

I wasn't sure which episode it was, so I went to the Search Page and typed in GPS, and found a few things about the company, but located the show I wanted fairly quickly.

You can also search for things like Nintendo Wii and see who has done a video about that. What you won't find on Network2 are the TV commercials, unless one of the shows happens to quote them. What you will find is video from shows that focus on these things like This Episode Of Bleeding Edge TV a tech show that covers the absolute latest happenings, or this bonus video from LoadingReadyRun, fall on your ass funny sketch comedy. You can search for anything, and the shows are also categorized.

The really cool part is, what you get in your search results will not be random videos where you may or may not be able to find items from the same person or along the same theme. What you get are episodes of shows that are committed to producing more. If you like what you see on any given episode you can be sure there is more work by the same person, and you can find it at Network2.

On an average of Thursdays, you will find a new episode of Focus, where I review 3-5 shows in a balance of review and parody.

This week's longform review: Goodnight Burbank.

So one great thing that happens In the space of Internet TV is when someone might cross a boundary or two in ways traditional media might be slower to embrace. Some shows take liberties with form. For example, duder offers episodes in multiple formats; sometimes a sitcom style piece, sometimes a dramatic monologue. Goodnight Burbank, the show at hand, merges genres of news satire and character-driven comedy.

Here's everything I've done for the N2 Blog, the list is mostly my reviews.

And so it begins...

So I'm becoming something of a figure in the vlogosphere, so it really seems like I should have a legit blog to call my own. This is a space for the things that I want to write that don't have a great fit in another corner of where I am.

As for who that exactly is and where those exactly are, I'm David. I work for Network2, which is your guide to Internet TV. It's not your random youtube videos, it's not broadcast television, it's somewhere in between. The visionary behind Network2 is none other than the one and only Jeff Pulver, co-founder of Vonage,Founder, Owner, and chairman of pulver.com and pulvermedia who are responsible for the "Voice on the Net/VON" conferences. I'm thoroughly delighted to be working on one of his projects, along with a great team, including Chris Brogan of Podcamp fame.

I host the weekly video show Focus, PulverTV's video magazine covering Network2 shows with 2/3 review and 1/3 parody. Though occasionally the balance will shift in one direction or the other. Focus is Updated on an average of Thursday.

I also write weekly longform reviews for Network2 shows that show up at the Network2 Blog on Tuesdays, and may jot down an industry related thought there every now and again.

So here will generally receive a paragraph from my longform with a link to the N2 blog, and an embed of my show, twice weekly blips at least, and we'll see what else I come up with. If I don't end up finding a place for anything, well, at least no one else is taking my handle.

Yes, I am Khyros of Khyros Multimedia... and I need, as of this update, to update my website. Maybe I'll RSS this blog over there so I don't have to worry about updating it so much.

On top of that, I also wanted a place to discourse on subjects that my friends in the space might blog about that are not purely industry related. Among said friends is Jessica Gold Haralson, a savvy student, instrumental in the creation of Quake, Penn's Literotica Magazine. (Jessica, I appreciate the blogrolling, will recip once I have a roll, but for now, linklove as I can.)
